Changes to Employment Permits Critical Skills, Ineligible Lists of Occupations and Quota’s

5 November 2021
The Employment Permits (Amendment) (No 2) Regulations 2021, Statutory Instrument SI No 559 of 2021, introduced the following changes as of 27 October 2021.
The newly eligible roles within the construction sector are:
  • Electricians
  • Masons
  • Roofers, Roof Tilers and Slaters
  • Plumbers and Heating & Ventilating Engineers
  • Carpenters & Joiners
  • Floorers and Wall Tilers
  • Painters and Decorators
  • Construction and Building Trades Supervisors
This now means that almost all occupations in the construction sector are eligible for a General Employment Permit.

HOW  THE PROCESS WORKS FOR GENERAL EMPLOYMENT PERMITS (IRELAND)

Jobs must be advertised on the EURES website and another digital job board for 28 days
  • with the Department of Social Protection Employment Services/EURES employment network for at least 4 weeks and (free of charge)
  • in a national newspaper for at least 3 days and
  • in either a local newspaper or jobs website e.g. (indeed, Glassdoor etc) (separate to Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection/EURES websites) for 3 days.
  • The employer applies for the employees General Work Permit
  • An application for any employment permit must be received at least 12 weeks before the proposed employment start date.

NB: An application for an employment permit can only be submitted when the Labour Market Needs Test has been completed and the application must be submitted within 90 days of the commencement of the advertisement on Jobsireland/EURES.

Employer completes The Recruitment Co. Job Order Form + Terms and Conditions and returns it to for processing.

Client has made and selection on the profiles presented, we then arranged second interviews (client and candidate)

Once the candidate receives a job offer, we work closely with them to prepare them for life abroad (making sure they have all required documentation and information to get started abroad)

On approval of the GWP, the candidate will work out there 4 weeks’ notice (if in full time employment or otherwise arranged) 

Here we schedule the flight ,the candidate buys their ticket and fly’s out! 

Employee Arrives!

This is where you take over. Arrange or discuss the options of collection from the airport. You put the employee on your payroll arrange PPS numbers and provide orientation/training and have them complete the necessary paperwork.
